Two versions of the night map are available, featuring images captured by NASA in different years totaling to 437,495 images stored on the Night Earth website (http://www.nightearth.com).

Compatible with devices running Android 5.1 onwards and Android TV, the Night Earth map vividly highlights global urbanization patterns and population densities, illustrating how cities tend to cluster along coastlines and transportation routes.

An outstanding feature of the map is its ability to contrast brightness with population density, providing insights into human settlement patterns.
