Two versions of the night map are available, featuring images captured by NASA in different years totaling to 437,495 images stored on the Night Earth website (http://www.nightearth.com).

Compatible with devices running Android 5.1 onwards and Android TV, the Night Earth map vividly highlights global urbanization patterns and population densities, illustrating how cities tend to cluster along coastlines and transportation routes.

An outstanding feature of the map is its ability to contrast brightness with population density, providing insights into human settlement patterns. It visually articulates how regions that appear brightest may not necessarily be the most densely populated, shedding light on the nuances of human habitation and growth.

The Night Earth map unveils vast unlit expanses across the globe, such as Antarctica's pitch-black landscape, underscoring its isolation and otherworldly allure. Similarly, it showcases dimly illuminated regions like interior jungles in Africa and South America, deserts worldwide, and remote boreal forests in Canada and Russia, reflecting the challenges faced by inhabitants in these areas regarding electricity access and infrastructure.

Besides its informational significance, the Night Earth map offers aesthetic pleasure by presenting Earth's beauty through a unique lens. It serves as a striking visual representation of light pollution on our planet, prompting contemplation on the intricate links between human activities, population distribution, and nature.
